EAN Country CodesThe first two or three digits of an EAN-13 barcode identify the country in which the manufacturer's identification code was assigned.  They do not necessarily indicate the country in which the goods were manufactured.   Many countries have EAN coding authorities which regulate the use of retail barcodes. Tips & Warnings The country of origin indicated in barcodes may not be the same country where a product was manufactured. It is the country where the company that produces the product is headquartered. A company located in Switzerland could have manufacturing sites in India, China or other country.
