How will you be showing your support towards stopping bullying?

Today is February 26, 2014 and it is pink shirt day!

Show your support against bullying.

I know that most think of kids on days like today,

 but I would like to point out that kids are not the only victims.

It is sad that we need a day like this, 

but if it helps to spread the word to stop this crime than I am all for it.

  

I believe we should always help those that are being bullied.

Young or old.

Every day of the year!

Lately I have been hearing a lot about seniors and/or disabled 

being bullied into paying more for services etc. 

I have to tell you this one, you would not believe that they get away with this but they do.

A neighbor of mine went to the drugstore about two weeks ago.

I did not find out until Friday what happened.

She went to pick up the vaccine for Shingles (a painful illness you would not want to wish on anyone)

She is a senior and in a wheel chair.

She has to pay for the vaccine because it is not covered by the seniors medical plan offered by the government here (actually the government does not pay for the shot for anyone that I know of.)

Anyways, most drugstores do not carry this vaccine because of it's expense

 and that it has to be stored properly in a fridge.

Her drugstore got her the vaccine under the condition she picks it up as soon as it came in and 

take to the doctor so he could give it to her.

Perfectly logical thinking.

The drugstore offered to and got the shot for her.

The problem came when she went to go to the doctor.

Now not many people here know this but seniors get a discount when they take a taxi.

When the meter is put on the driver is supposed to hit a button for the senior discount.

The drugstore is across the street from where I live 

and her doctor is a half a block down the street from where I work.

It costs me approx. $18.00 to take a taxi to work (why I don't normally take one), 

but I have taken a taxi about 4 times in the last year.

She called Grand Taxi (here in Welland, Ontario) to pick her up at the drugstore 

and take her to her doctor.

She has a wheel chair so she needed a special car, well van actually.

It usually costs $5.00 extra for a wheelchair transport.

When she got in the taxi, the driver told her that the meter did not work.

Than she was told that it would cost $40.00 for the ride that costs me $18.00.

She said she couldn't afford $40 and in the end they charged her $35.

They knew she needed the ride, she had no choice.  

She just spent $175. on the vaccine and had to go to the doctors before the shot turned.

They bullied her!

Not only did they not have a working meter (so that she could get the seniors discount) 

but they outright lied on how much it would cost to get to where she was going.

The most it should have cost her without the discount was $23.00.

She lives on a fixed income.

So today don't just think about the kids, think about others being bullied!

STOP BULLYING FOR EVERYONE!!

I got these so that everyday I think about it 

and to remind others to think about it as well!

So if you can wear Pink today!

My pictures from the December Ice Storm!

Here are the pictures I took the morning after the ice storm.

First though it looks like I am working tomorrow (Sat) for 5 hours and Monday for 6.5 hours as well.

Both girls in the front are sick so will cover part of their shifts for them.

I just hope my doctor doesn't find out I am standing more than 4 hours a day!

Okay now for some pictures!!

We were lucky no one was hurt in our area or much damage.  

We did lose power for a few hours all over the city, we lost power here for about 8 hours but it was early morning (approx 1:30 am to 10 am) and some did not notice it was off that long.

The other side of town did not lose power until later in the morning or afternoon so they noticed it more.

These were taken on Lancaster Dr in Welland, Ontario, Canada the day after the storm.

It is amazing how beautiful nature can be as well as dangerous!

Kountry Kraft Show!!!!!!

Over 50 crafters no store bought items.

There will be a penny table, plus mystery bags and the proceeds will be going to the Help a Child Smile & Eastdale Breakfast Club.

They will also be accepting non perishable foods etc for the Hope House.

It is on for 2 days, November 9 and 10 at 9 am to 4 pm.

Great place to pick up unique Christmas gifts etc.

Even Lil'shy will be there!

I did it!

Well Thursday I got my first tattoo!

My sister was going to go with me, but had other things to do.

I was supposed to get the tattoo on Wednesday 

but I got called into work so I was able to reschedule for Thursday.

The lady who did my tattoo was very nice and did not make me nervous at all.

I went to a Sleepy Hollow Studios here is Welland.

So here is a picture, my sister really wants to see it, so I promised I would post it here.

Plus so my readers can see it too.

 Remember these were taken about 5 hours after it was done.

I had it put on my right arm.

Once it is healed I will post another picture.

Well I have to go see if boyfriend needs anything, his shingles has proven to be very painful for him, hopefully his medication will allow him to get some much needed sleep. (and me too!)

Looks like I have to wait until November 2 before I am free of chicken pox, although the incubation period for adults is about 14 to 16 days (which ends Monday) but can be up to 21 days.

Well I hope everyone is doing okay and having a nice day!

PS The building I live in is putting in automated doors for the handicapped in the building.  They started installing them today (Thursday).

What happened to respect?

Well 2 things happened in the city I live in this week.

Today I will talk about the first one and tomorrow the second one (this one is done every week)

The first was a protest to a cause that is very controversial.

Now I believe everyone has the right to their opinion if it does not harm anyone or any animal.

I do not believe that just because you have a good cause that you have the right to subject others to pain or obscene pictures.

On my way to work one day, I saw protesters, (not something you see often here).

At first I thought good for them standing up for what they believe in.

2 Seconds later was looking up the police phone number.

I could not believe my eyes.

There on both sides Niagara Street were four pictures being held up 2 facing one way and 2 the other, for all to see--anyone in a car or walking.

Now if you live in Welland and are going north out of town, or to the Seaway Mall to shop with the kids, or even Walmart, you had to pass these pictures.

It was a stop funding abortion protest.

All four pictures were of dead fetuses!

And recognizable! 

I called the police and was informed they had many calls about the pictures.

I was transferred to another officer who said that the pictures were legal and that there was nothing they could do about it.  They were considered safe for all to see, no matter of their age.  He more or less said not to do anything to bring attention to these people because it only gave them more press.

A part of me understands why the picked those pictures but my heart and soul is so upset that they had them out there for children (young and old) to see and ask what happened to those babies?

Why do they look funny?

How do you answer the little ones questions?

Sorry honey but those babies are dead.

The pictures are not easy forgotten.

Even children will remember them.

Nightmares, fear of death are to name a few effects these pictures cause.

Now what about those poor people who for some reason lost a child before it was born to an accident or illness?  An emotionally hard and sad time in their lives (even causing depression) now are faced, without warning, while driving down the street, with these pictures.

There are two other groups out there that would be affected by these pictures.

1:     Those who now regret what they have done.

 2:   (these ones my heart breaks when I think that they saw these pictures) Are those who were forced into stopping a pregnancy by a parent, caregiver, husband, or made to chose who should live  - themselves or a child that may not make it to birth.

These pictures ARE WRONG!

Would you like one on a billboard in front of your house?

Does that mean they can show these pictures on the side of a road by a public school, any school?

Maybe they think it is right to have one at every corner.

What kind of message are we sending?

Sure it is fine to take pictures of dead children and plaster them all over for all to see.

Yes I said children, these people believe that these fetuses, are children, so they are showing pictures of children - dead. 

It is okay to take someones pain and play with it.

These actions prove that they do not really care about life, 

since there main goal is to hurt as many possible,

to stop just a few.

This law must be changed since leaving it up to these people to be discreet, to have empathy for survivors and children who see them, is non existence.

Every person I spoke with agrees the pictures were not right.  With so many other things available to them, they were not needed - especially where young children can see them.

There was one person who disagreed but did not say anything more after I said why I thought they were wrong.

Needless to say any good feelings I had for this group are almost completely gone.

There treatment of others prove their fight is for the wrong reasons, if they were the right reasons they would never have had those pictures there for young and old alike too see.

They care not one bit for their neighbors, family or friends

if this is what the subject them and their children too.

I just hope that other groups think twice when protesting,

you lose any credibility when, to prove a point, you hurt others

I understand the fight of the Pro Life groups but these people have just brought their cause down to a low point, proving "Pro Life" is not the right words if hurting our young and subjecting them and others to things no average person would see is considered right and acceptable.

Thanks for letting me vent, 

I have seen a lot of things in my life and these pictures where very disturbing,

the fact that they were right there for all to see was unbelievable.

Tomorrow respect and car shows.

Cat Adoption Centre, That is not a cat!!!!! Open Saturday March 30!!!!!!

The weekend that celebrates true love.

Unselfish love.

Spread that love.

With family, friends, strangers!

And don't forget the ones that share love unconditionally!!!

Our animal friends!!!

They need homes that love and care for them!

They will give you unconditional love and all they ask is for yours!!

One of the easiest things in the world, to love an animal.

They do not understand the human concept of loving conditionally.

They will love you for who you are.

Make a trip to a local shelter or pet store and adopt an animal who will love you for ever. 

All they want is a good home, a loving home!

In my area the Cat Adoption Centre, at the Seaway Mall at 800 Niagara Street, Welland, has beautiful cats up for adoption, some are even sponsored.

They are fixed or will be fixed when they are old enough, it is covered in the fee.

They are open Saturday!!!!

Here are some of the ones that are there!

Plus a special friend!! 

 Mister Bun made a trip to the Cat Adoption Centre!!!
